My most recent experience has been a four month work placement on the ABC television program Media Watch. Media Watch plays a watchdog role over the Australian media and is a primary source of media analysis, commentary and investigation. The show strives not only to produce high quality and accurate content, but to foster a climate of truthfulness, integrity and responsibility within the media. Responsibilities I was given included the gathering of news, information and evidence for the weekly show and undertaking research for stories and articles. Other duties included responding to tip-offs from the general public, attending weekly story-board meetings as well as administrative roles such as the archiving of newspapers, magazines and publications in the office. Vital skills I developed during my time at Media Watch include:- Strong communication and interpersonal skills- Proficient writing and researching skills- Expert fact-checking- Strong time management skills and being able to respond quickly to the demands of the job- Excellent organisation skills- Ability to take initiative and problem solve- Technical skills such as locating, clipping and transcribing videos as well as the use of Press Display, a digital newspaper archive system
