Profile bio

About Frieda Gebert

I am motivated by goals and deadlines. Praise is nice, but give me a task to complete and I am fired up! Most people would describe me as upbeat, but nothing gets under my skin worse than people who focus on obstacles rather than the goal. Obstacles are things to be overcome, not reasons a goal can't be set and achieved.I like to learn. I love to find out how things work, why they work that way, and how they might work better. Problem solving is like breathing to me.I love to create, especially by working with other creative people. Workplaces that encourage new ideas are exciting places to be, and sharing the creative process with colleagues is valuable time.My career has been a series of fascinating experiences that have taken me around the world. From teaching at the University of Shanghai to leading tours across Europe, I have explored cultures and ideas, always learning and asking why. Here are some highlights of my professional journey:- I enjoy public speaking and have taught, performed, and led seminars for people as young as 10 and as old as 95. My communication skills led to being asked to a address a conference on Sustainability in Hamilton, New Zealand in 2013.- I have written numerous magazine and journal articles, and even published a book, written in conjunction with Dr. Kevin Gibson, a professor at Marquette University. The book is entitled "Sustaining Living Cultures." It deals with the concept of sustaining rather than preserving cultures around the globe. My writing and editing skills have been used for academic writing, advertising copy, webpage design, proofreading, and more.- I was tasked with creating an academy for creative students within a school district, dealing with staffing, funding, scheduling, and designing the curriculum for the endeavor. In less than a year, the academy launched with over 200 students auditioning and interviewing for acceptance. It is still going strong, adding another hundred students, and five faculty members to the staff.- In the last year, I have written numerous grants and have received funds from every source I petitioned. My husband is a statistician and my father was an accountant; perhaps my love of numbers and figures was learned from them. Regardless, I enjoy grant-writing because I view them as big puzzles that need to be solved by my favorite thing, a deadline! If you are looking for a passionate communicator, through writing or speaking, look no further.
