Using the latest in software build systems to enable my team and others in Google.- Responsible for the build infrastructure and plugins for https://github.com/google/automotive-design-compose- After determining that existing build integrations were no longer maintained, I built a Gradle plugin to build and include a Rust native library within an Android library and published for inclusion in consumer apps.- Along with the above plugin, the build system also integrates custom serialization generation, Kotlin code generation, integration and unit tests, screenshot tests, app installation and credential management and library publication.- Constant advocate for documentation, testing and well written designs- Always ready to lend advice to members of other teams- Made various contributions to internal tooling
Devops Engineer
Continuing to learn and grow as I continue my journey from software development to developer operations.Originally brought on to build up an embedded Linux system with secure OTA update to support our early code, but quickly transitioned to both learning the Android Open Source build system and being responsible for company DevOps, supporting multiple interconnected systems, builds and services. In the past few months I've been responsible for:- Building / maintaining our GitLab CI/CD pipelines, including a set of auto-scaling GitLab runners hosted in Google Cloud.- Learning Gradle, Groovy and Kotlin to support multiple Android Libraries, demo apps and build Gradle plugins which simplify our new user experience- Modifying and building Android Open Source for various virtualized devices, writing CI to build the image and making the builds available internally via Android Studio- Learning and building server-less infrastructure to efficiently host a web service with proper CI/CD- Administrating a Google Cloud organization, including the infrastructure for the above and learning and implementing best practices for reducing attack vectors and maintaining appropriate system privileges. Prior work involved modifying open source hypervisors to enable new display technologies, learning and optimizing Rust builds.I work fully remote and focus on identifying and solving problems, time sinks and frustrations before they become critical.
Embedded Linux Engineer
Responsible for building and maintaining a full Linux image using the Yocto Embedded Linux toolchain. This Linux image is booted on a Raspberry Pi and deployed in production environments. The image can be built for production or debug, and is customized with each product’s ID number. The completed device is responsible for running the company’s software which monitors broadcasts from bluetooth devices and forwards them to cloud servers. Builds ran on EC2 machines via standalone instances and AWS CodeBuild, and customized via Python scripts running within Docker on AWS’s ECS Fargate service. Terraform/Terragrunt, Ansible and Packer were used to provision this infrastructure. OTA update was later added, using the Mender libraries and controlled via bluetooth or mqtt command.

Product demonstrations included customer proof of concepts and trade show presentations. Represented the product and provide in-depth explanations of product features on the show floor, during early customer engagement and during training classes. Managed customer feature requests and pain points and help to set the priorities of the engineering team. Accomplishments- Collaborated with a team to design an embedded robot control system for the purposes of demonstrating the hypervisor at exhibitions. Using Python, designed and wrote Windows-based control / feedback GUIs and Embedded Linux (Buildroot) server/client pair for command authentication and transmission via network.- Using Embedded Buildroot and StrongSwan to manage IPsec, designed and demonstrated the initial version of a new in-flight encrypted communications system for a system integrator, leading to a second, larger scale project.- Created and maintained training materials and new user walkthroughs intended for both training classes and unassisted learning. Lab materials included creation of basic Linux Kernel Modules and C applications- Performed on-site technical assistance and provided guidance for the use of the product, acting as primary point of contact for technical guidance- Created and demonstrated a proof of concept for a secure and encrypted laptop design. PoC was demonstrated to a large European bank, securing their commitment to further development.

Was responsible for all aspects of the GUI, from the graphical design and behavior of the GUI elements to the interface to the proprietary graphics hardware. Implemented system using only the C and C++ standard libraries and internal code.- Designed and implemented a secure firmware distribution system for updating both local and remote devices, providing firmware confidentiality and integrity guarantees.- Assisted in customer certification and pilot programs and demonstrated the product at trade shows.- Led efforts to integrate the product with a third party OS- Integrated third-party graphics hardware into existing Linux system, backported drivers to an older Linux kernel version and designed and implemented a simple ncurses text display.- Explored virtualization technologies and became familiar with Microsoft Hyper-V and VMWare vSphere.
