I am the head reservoir operator and team lead in reservoir operations for flood control in the Sacramento District, which includes operating reservoirs for flood control that are located in California, Colorado, and Utah.

After moving to California for personal reasons, I decided that I wanted to change directions in my career from heavy civil construction to water resources. I began my tenure at HDR working on a FEMA Region IX Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity Contract (IDIQ) for Coastal and/or riverine studies/restudies throughout Arizona, California, and Nevada, where I gained extensive FEMA floodplain processing assignments and I was the Task Order/Project Manager for seven task orders. I also was the Post-Processing Team Leader for all 21 task orders requiring post processing. Post processing is the very detailed process in which preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps go from being preliminary products to final products. After the FEMA IDIQ ended, I focused on developing my technical skills in areas of hydraulic modeling and floodplain mapping using HEC-RAS and GIS-based systems. Additionally, I worked on the development of water temperature models using one- and two-dimensional models utilizing CE-QUAL-W2, HFAM, SSTEMP, and HEC-5Q for use in several Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) relicensing projects. Major responsibilities included:-Developing and analyzing hydrologic and hydraulic models.-Developing, manipulating, and using reservoir and stream water temperature models. -Performing field reconnaissance for hydraulic analysis and levee rehabilitation. -Preparing technical reports in association with hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, as well as water temperature analyses. -Preparing Cost Estimates and developing of Proposals associated with new business pursuits. -Managing budgets and schedules for FEMA task orders.-Overseeing post processing activities as Post Processing Team Leader for FEMA task orders.-Preparing Technical Support Data Notebooks (TSDNs) per FEMA Guidelines and Specifications.-Conducting Quality Assurance/Quality Control reviews of TSDNs, hydraulic models, water temperature models, and floodplain analyses.

I was an Office Engineer for the $159 Million Design-Build project that is part of the expansion of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The project consisted of the two bridge structures that enable the fifth runway and parallel taxiway to span 10 lanes of Interstate-285. Major responsibilities included:-Documenting and forecasting weekly and monthly production quantities for cost analysis of self-performed activities.-Validating invoices from subcontractors and vendors for quantity and unit cost adequacy.-Developing leadership skills through oversight of daily activities performed by project intern.-Training newly hired junior engineers on company systems and protocols.-Enrolling subcontractors in Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP).-Organizing and compiling production quantities, cost data, quality information, and safety figures for incorporation into monthly summary report detailing all work performed on the Project.-Performing constructability reviews to verify technical adequacy of plans for asphalt and concrete paving. -Preparing correspondence including submittals, RFIs, and letters to the owner and subcontractors/vendors.-Evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotes for scope coverage and compliance with plans and specifications.-Preparing cost estimates based on quotes from subcontractors/vendors.-Procuring project materials for self performed civil and structural work.
