About Donald Webster

As a Systems Administrator I have experience working on Linux, Unix and Windows servers running on a wide range of hardware. I've setup, troubleshooted and resolved issues ranging from hardware to operating system and to software running on the systems. Over time, my expertise has leaned toward Linux and Unix and more. Eventually, we moved to two daily pushes and I'm now also responsible for Facebook and Messenger for Android releases.

    This position was a Systems Administration position in a very unique and varied environment. I mainly worked on Linux and Unix systems, but had some Windows responsibilities as well. These systems almost all interacted in some way with good old mainframes, of which I learned a little about while there. I never actually got comfortable enough with them, nor do I understand more than the very basics of them. It was a great position with a wide variety of problems, hardware, software and challenges.

    This position was at a glorified call center. They were looking for people with good experience in Windows, Linux and Unix and payed very very well. Unfortunately, the job itself was very low level and they had a hard time with retention, despite the abnormally high pay. I was able to stick around 6 months before I could take it anymore, I was the last one of 5 or 6 that started on the same week.

    I started out working 3rd shift as a NOC Analyst. Eventually, I became a Systems Administrator and when Sprint bought Dellhost from Interliant, I moved to Sprint. When Sprint then sold it's web hosting a year later, I was finally laid off.I worked mainly with Windows, but was one of the few Linux people and did a large share of the (although fairly small) Linux related work. Almost entirely related to web hosting of course, so IIS, Apache, FTP and a few other miscellaneous things.
