In the three years I was in Santa Barbara City College’s Student Senate as Commissioner of Clubs the Public Relations Officer position was held by many people. Most of these people were voted in, then did not strive for results or give any kind of strong marketing strategies. Per was different. When Per was voted in as Public Relations Officer it was part way through the year, at peak time that the Student Senate should have been marketing to the students. One week after being voted in Per had made a full marketing campaign for the Student Senate and had put it into action. This campaign included the Santa Barbara City College Student Senate’s first public Facebook profile, a monthly email to students letting them know what the student senate was working on, and posters placed around school to let students know the faces and names of the members of senate. After this new marketing campaign student awareness of and participation in Student Senate, the two things lacking at SBCC, jumped up dramatically. Per’s flawless ability to take a group who had been missing their target audience for years and turn it right around is one of the most impressive uses of marketing knowledge and tools I’ve ever seen."
