I am a passionate believer in the idea that universities should lead the way in promoting social justice and change.This is why I focus my research on child sexual abuse and sexual abusers, an incredibly sensitive, painful social problem. In order to be truly effective in combating this crime, we need to listen to what the offenders tell us about their motivations and impulses. Therefore, my theoretical focus is on the personal narrative as a form of therapeutic rhetoric, as well its applications for corrections. Narrative analysis has increased in popularity within the criminal justice field, and it offers exciting new approaches to rehabilitation and prevention.In addition, I am interested in the ways in which mass media perpetuate the moral panic surrounding the crime of child sexual abuse and other "monstrous" offenses, and the public perceptions and policies that result.Specialties: Teaching, coaching, training in areas such as public speaking, public relations, persuasion, organizational communication, and interpersonal communication.
