About Francisco Serra
I have had a diversified set of professional experiences, starting in the hospitality sector, both as a professional hotel manager and as an entrepreneur, followed by teaching experiences at a professional hotel school and at the University. Since the 80's, I've also made my own academic roadmap, from hospitality managemnt to marketing and tourism, to a PhD in economics and management science.From 2006 to 2011 I've had the opportunity to work in the healthcare sector, as member of the Administration Board, at a large Public Hospital and, at the beginning of 2012 I just came back to the University of the Algarve where I've just embraced another challenge, this time as the Director of the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism. Once again, in June 2016 I've accepted the invitation to become President of the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of the Algarve (CCDR Algarve). At the present, I am algo the President of the AAA Euro-Region (Algarve, Andalucia, Alentejo), on behalf of CCDR-ALGARVE.I've always been involved in community work, namely within the Portuguese Association for Quality (regional vice-president), the Algarve Film Commission (President of the Fiscal Council) and FISEC (Ibero-American Forum for Communication Strategy) Pres. PT Chapter.Besides, I am an active member of a number of University Research Centers, focusing on complexity and systems modelling, regional economics, strategic management of tourism destinations and, lately, healthcare management systems.
