I went to law school with the express purpose of becoming a labor and employment lawyer. I became interested in the law of the workplace as a student at Georgia Tech. However, before following my goal, I did a tour in the U.S. Marine Corps. I attended law school in Alabama and remained there after graduation, first working for a year for a defense firm in Mobile. When my wife decided to attend law school, we moved to Birmingham, where I began my career in labor and employment. It was at this boutique firm that I learned the intricacies of many of the laws I work with on a daily basis today. In late 1991, my wife and I decided to return to South Carolina where we had met almost 19 years earlier. In 1993, I was hired by Turner Padget to develop its employment practice. Today, the practice now includes two certified specialists and seven other attorneys who handle employment law matters. I have been practicing employment law for over 30 years. I have practiced in virtually all aspects of labor and employment law, including matters arising under federal employment laws including the ADA, ADEA, Title VII, FLSA, ERISA, FMLA, and the NLRA. I also routinely handle actions based on state law claims. In addition, I spend a lot of time counseling employers trying to prevent issues before they ever arise, and mediating disputes for other lawyers.
