  Established in 1946, the Fulbright Program is an international exchange program sponsored by the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). The purpose of the program is to create an educational exchange environment that fosters mutual understanding and bridges cultural gaps.Since the early 1970s, in cooperation with the U.S. State Department, AMIDEAST has administered the Fulbright Foreign Student Program for the Middle East and North Africa. Under the AMIDEAST program, more than 2,400 students from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, the West Bank/Gaza, and Yemen have been placed in graduate programs at universities across the United States.
