The UC Riverside Track and Field Team solidified its coaching staff with the addition of throws coach Candace Fuller heading into the 2018 season."Being able to add someone of Candace's caliber for a mid-year hire is a tremendous blessing," Head Coach Nate Browne said. "Her ability to coach all the throwing events at a high level and executive experience in the private sector set her apart from the rest of the candidates."An alumni at UCLA where she was a Pac-10 champion in the discus, Fuller brings with her over 20 years of coaching experience, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Cal Poly Pomona since 2016.Fuller got her coaching start as an assistant coach at Cal State Northridge in 1994. Four years later, she would move to Syracuse, serving another four-year stint that ended in 2002.The California native has coached 13 NCAA All-Americans, seeing many of her athletes set various conference and school records and compete in Olympic qualifying rounds. On top of being a certified USATF (USA Track & Field) instructor, Fuller is also certified in sports management, USA weight lifting, and as a personal trainer."[Fuller] has hit the ground running with our athletes and they have taken to her approach and style of coaching," Browne said. "We expect to continue our recent throws success and enhance that success with every athlete, across all the events that Coach Fuller will oversee."Fuller graduated from UCLA in 1994 with a degree in sociology. In 2002, she earned her masters from St. Thomas University in sports administration.During her time as an athlete at UCLA, she was also the Cal/Nevada State Champion in the discus, placed 6th on the UCLA all-time list, and was a two-time Pac-10 Championship Team Member (1993-94).

"I'm thrilled to join the Cal Poly Pomona Track and Field program this year,"​ said Fuller. "I am grateful for the opportunity provided by our Athletic Director Brian Swanson and our Acting Head Coach Wes Ashford. We have a tremendous group of young athletes in the throwing events that are already off to a great start and I look forward to seeing their accomplishments as our season progresses."​ Prior to CPP, Fuller held assistant coaching positions at two NCAA Division I institutions in Cal State University Northridge from 1994-1998 and Syracuse University from 1998-2000. During that span, she has coached 11 NCAA Division I All-Americans, seven America West Conference champions, nine Big Sky Conference champions and six Big East Conference champions. "We are excited to have Candace join our coaching staff,"​ said Acting Head Coach Wes Ashford. "Throughout her coaching career, the athletes she has coached have been able to show marked improvement and several have gone on to achieve All-American status. The knowledge and experience she has in coaching the throwing events will definitely help in developing the group of young throwers we have here at Cal Poly Pomona. Fuller has also coached Olympic level athletes in meets such as the USATF National Championships, the US Olympic Trials, the Pan Am Games and the World Cup. As a student-athlete at UCLA, Fuller was a Pac-10 and Cal-Nevada Champion in Women's Discus and was a NCAA Division I Championship Qualifier. A native of Pomona, Calif., Fuller graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Sociology and earned her Master's in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University.
