About Nick Fulton
I've spent nearly two decades working in the music industry. In that time I have interviewed celebrities, had life-changing conversations with hundreds of talented artists, developed content for award-winning brands, publications, and digital media companies, and co-founded a music blog archived in New Zealand's National Library.My reviews, artist profiles, and essays have been published online and in print by i-D, Billboard, Grammy.com, The FADER, Vice, Bandcamp, V Magazine, and many others. A 2015 essay I wrote for Pitchfork received an official response in the Village Voice.In 2008, I founded Einstein Music Journal (EMJ) with my partner Sarah Gooding and worked as its Editor in Chief until 2012. During this period, EMJ became New Zealand's most-read music blog and was part of a global music alliance that included The Guardian, Red Bull Panamerika, and approximately 20 additional music publications involved in a content-sharing initiative. My writing on EMJ was quoted in Rolling Stone, Brooklyn Vegan, and New York Magazine.To complement the writing on EMJ, I made weekly radio appearances on RDU 98.5FM and VBC 88.3FM, where I spoke about new music and the latest music industry news. I also arranged and promoted live concerts at Auckland's Whammy Bar and Wine Cellar, showcasing New Zealand's best up-and-coming talent. In 2011, I participated in a panel discussion about online music media that aired on Radio New Zealand's Music 101 program.I have been profiled in numerous print and online magazines, made guest appearances on radio, and from 2020 to 2022 was an official voting board member for A2IM's (American Association of Independent Music) Libera Awards. In 2019, I was one of only two New Zealand-born music critics invited to contribute to the BBC's list of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time.Most recently, I spent three years at a world-leading music technology company as a Senior Copywriter, managing the company's content marketing strategy and defining the tone of voice for multiple brands. I crafted blog articles, e-books, reports, social posts, emails, native content, audience personas, and much more, executing a multichannel marketing strategy that yielded excellent results. I also worked with internal stakeholders, freelancers, and media partners to write, edit, and publish thought-leadership content in leading industry publications, including Adweek, Music Ally, and The Drum.
