My projects centre around themes of regenerative architecture, with the aim of restoring our precious planet and creating healthy, equitable places for the planet and all people to thrive. In a freelance and research capacity, I design alternative community engagement methods to ensure all community stakeholders, however disparate, can access and have a say in projects in their neighbourhoods. I have expertise turning this participant research into co-designed proposals and planning policies, creating a meaningful and inclusive dialogue between communities and decision makers, and ensuring regeneration projects become a positive and lasting legacy for places. I am a retrofit coordinator, and am running and recording The Victorian House of the Future project, a whole house decarbonisation project carried out on a low budget for an occupied family home. Find details at www.fundakemal.com.I am employed by both Bath Spa University and the University of Bath to teach Architecture and Urban Design, with an emphasis on regenerative design. In my consultancy, I also use my architectural expertise in design review panels and public inquiries for planning. I am an experienced regenerative and urban design practitioner with a holistic, realistic approach to climate change impacts and have an ability to successfully work through design improvements between local authorities and developers on major strategic schemes, even in adversarial circumstances, to create better designed places for all.
