I was the Chairperson of the first independent Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) that was established on 24 November 2009 to modernise the electoral system and develop a functioning multi-party system in the Maldives. I was also a member of the interim Elections Commission that was established on 4 September 2008 prior to the first Elections Commission.I was involved in policy level decisions and overall planning and management of all national elections and public referendums including the 2008 Presidential Election, 2009 Parliamentary Election, 2011 Local Council Elections, 2013 Presidential Election, 2014 Local Council Election and 2014 Parliamentary Election in the Maldives.Prior to my work at the Election Commission of Maldives, I was the Executive Director at the Ministry of Planning and National Development where I led the National Census Operations of 1977, 1985, 1990, 2000 and 2006, socio-economic surveys at national level and contributed immensely to all the statistical publications of the government during the periods 1977-1992 and 2000-2006. From 1992 to 1999, I worked as Computer Programmer at the Secretariat of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
