Working in the Offender Learning Sector for 13 years now, I decided to set up a studio called Maison Make-Do in January 2020 and was lucky enough to have this studio commissioned as part of the Ministry of Justice Dynamic Purchasing System contracts at HMP Holme House. Maison Make-do enables me to work directly with male prisoners and enabling them to gain real-life work experience, working in a design studio where we are working to briefs set by the prison Governors. Current projects include delivering in-cell learning services, which include encouraging self expression and personal wellbeing through the Creative Arts. Ongoing projects include bringing nature into our prison through developing nature inspired artwork which will be professionally edited and printed onto large exterior boards. These boards will be used to cover areas of brick and metal through creating much softer facades. My specialist area of design is creating beautiful materials for lighting, materials and surfaces. I am the proud owner of a British Granted Patent, No. 2447550, in the name of Joanne Riddle, my maiden name.During 2008/2009, I spent time developing the EcoPETlite concept, along with fellow designer, Ondrej Lewis through our business Ateliero Ltd. Ateliero Ltd, specialised in innovative bespoke surfaces and lighting solutions for commercial and television installations / props. We designed 'to order' as our installations were bespoke and totally unique, taking many forms; in particularly lighting design, including large scale chandeliers.Ateliero Ltd also exhibited at New Designers 2008 and 100% Design 2008, as part of the Lighten Up exhibition with [Re]Design.In June 2008, the EcoPETlite was shortlisted for the Design Museum's Designers in Residence Exhibition 2008.In October 2008, the EcoPETlite was nominated for Homes & Gardens, Classic Design Awards 2009.In January 2009, Ateliero Ltd was shortlisted for the Emerging Talent Sector of 'Restaurant & Bar Awards 2009'.
