Hi!My name is Fátima Palacios Figueroa, and I'm a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Bachelor of Science in Statistics at the University of Florida's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.Currently, I serve as the Chief of Staff for the Hispanic Student Association, where I focus on member relations between 70+ cabinet members as well as assisting the President with any additional projects. I have previously served as the Secretary of the Hispanic Student Association where I, along with 8 executive board members, was in charge of managing the daily operations, agenda, and promoting the mission of UF’s largest cultural organization. My specific duties included but were not limited to: managing attendance records for 150+ members, voter eligibility calculations for 300+ members, room reservations, event permits, and the organization calendar. My time in the Hispanic Student Association has fostered my commitment to DEI and promoting the development of minority communities on and off campus, while giving me the opportunities to grow as a leader and communicator.I've taken extensive coursework in the Mathematics, Statistics, and Economics Departments at UF, where I've developed a deep interest in how analytic processes and problem solving techniques can be utilized in the public sphere. Over the past semester, I've applied by R, regression, and data organization skills to begin empirical research on the effectiveness of carbon pricing instruments under the supervision of a faculty advisor. I highly enjoy the technical intricacies of my math courses and always seek spaces where I can continue to challenge myself in and outside the classroom. As an individual passionate about climate change and renewable energy, I’m excited about exploring careers in the energy industry, particularly opportunities where I can further develop my data analytic skills while contributing to a sustainable future.
