Current

As the Vice President of Assessments at SecurityMetrics I manage a team of qualified security assessors and penetration test engineers conducting remote and on-site security assessments for large and small companies. As a senior security analyst (PCI QSA) I conduct various types of on-site network and computer security audits. Most of the audits are assessments for merchants and service provider compliance to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). As part of this process I consult with customers prior to the on-site visit to help them design and configure their network and computer assets to ensure the security of sensitive data. I also have experience conducting audits for credit unions, HIPPA compliance, HITRUST compliance, and CIS CSC compliance.

Corda Development TeamAs a member of the development team at Corda I wrote Java, and C++ code to support the secure back-end server of Corda's data visualization product. The last 2 years at Corda, in addition to software development, I was the Director of Corda's Consulting and Education Division. I designed and taught training courses and interfaced directly with customers to help them develop web applications with Corda's data visualization technology. Many of these web applications were dealing with sensitive internal financial and personnel data. I advised customers on the secure access and development of these web sites. I managed cost and tracked revenue for the consulting division.

Owner

Rocknob Gearshifts

In 1999 I started a company that manufactured gearshift knobs made from natural river rock. It was a very interesting "across the board" learning experience on the process of starting up and running a small company. I did all the web site development and secure e-commerce integration enabling product sales via the internet (www.rocknob.com). I have sold this company.

Software Engineer Ii

Novell, Inc.

As a member of the NetWare Distributed Print Services team at Novell I designed and developed a network service (written in C) that provided secure access to a shared repository of resource files (i.e. printer drivers, fonts, banner pages, etc.). Since this network service includes both client and server components I have gained extensive development and debugging experience in both the NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) and Microsoft Windows (DLL) environments. I was heavily involved in the development of secure Java applications in both the "back end services" and user interface areas. These projects have given me extensive development experience using the Java Native Interface and Java Foundation Class (Swing) API's.

May 1995 - Sep 2000

Engineer Scientist Specialist

Mcdonnell Douglas Aerospace

As a member of an advanced technology research group at McDonnell Douglas Space Systems, I worked on a number of advanced research teams applying my engineering and software development skills to the design of complex engineering systems. I had opportunities to manage research and proposal efforts, give company and government briefings, develop AI expert systems, and apply software rapid prototyping techniques. I had a DOD Secret clearance and worked on many classified government projects and proposals.Starting in early 1994 I worked on a team that conducted a joint research project with Russian space agencies and NASA to develop planetary rover technologies. The rover's controller was an advanced RISC 3000 processor running a real-time UNIX operating system (VXWorks). My responsibility was to head up development of the teleoperation control software used to operate the rover via the Internet. This software included the client user interface, client/server network communication modules, and modules that processed the image data from the rover cameras. I also developed a Virtual Reality simulation used for teleoperation training and display of real-time rover position data.

May 1988 - May 1995

Consultant

Medical Instrumentation & Diagnostics Corporation

As a consultant I helped develop surgical planning software for neurosurgery. The resulting software applied numerical optimization techniques to help generate optimal radiation treatment plans for isotope seed implants and radiation beam therapy of inoperable brain tumors. This work resulted in the award of a U.S. Patent on the algorithms developed.
