Throughout this internship, my perspective of the manufacturing world has been molded; having experienced first hand the methods and reasoning behind manufacturing has helped me connect the idea of a project to the product itself. I have been involved in a myriad of projects while at Faurecia. One of my largest domains has involved improving the efficiency of production through the addition of useful devices. The challenge has fostered an aptitude for creating an idea and reforming its shortcomings until it is a complete and functional tool. Repeating the full process from conception through designing, fabrication, testing, and integration has caused me to grow leagues as an engineer.In addition to process improvement, I have also had the opportunity to delve into resource management. Specifically, my major project involves waste reduction, including identifying the points of loss and resolving the cause of unnecessary waste. By learning the effects of how inefficiencies can affect production and finance, I've become aware of the importance of maintaining a thriving work environment.Throughout these projects as well as many others, I was also pushed to learn and apply a 5S mindset to my work. Valuing organization, standardization, and sustainability, while it may not be at the forefront of each project, can improve the quality and simplicity of any situation. It was not until I got in the habit of applying this mindset to my projects that I saw a drastic positive change in both the timeliness and quality of efforts.Even though there were significant complications in this internship experience due to both COVID-19 and the microchip shortage, I have experienced substantial growth in my technical capabilities as well as my professional engineering career. I extend great gratitude to everyone who has helped me on this journey into my first major industry experience.

Sharing what I know is how I look to influence the development of not only projects and innovations, but also the careers of other students. For the Fall 2020 semester I served as prof. Jennifer Reid's assistant for one of her Engineering Innovations classes. While in this position, I helped students refine designs they drafted for projects tasked to them by a local non-profit, assisted them in the construction of their projects, and provided constructive feedback to students to improve their final products.
