I designed and implemented enhancements to our Data Deletion Service in order to comply with the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act. This design used a cuckoo filter and a new data ingestion pipeline to create a new data deletion workflow used across the Ads org.I cut costs by 20% and decreased the on-call load by 90% for our Data Access Service by removing redundancies and improving the efficiency of our queries. This led to a drop in processing time from 12 to 3 hours, and a 90% drop in high-severity tickets over a 6-month period.I refactored the Ads Cookie Consent library to improve latency and user experience. Library initialization was reduced from 15 minutes to 5 minutes via parallelization, and I added comprehensive metrics which improved transparency for clients and helped identify bottlenecks.

Wealth Management TechnologyThis was my second rotation, and the placement I chose after the Technology Leadership Program ended.I Implemented unit tests for wealth management python APIs, taking coverage from 0% to 100% in my first month. I also worked to improve the performance of our python APIs by refactoring them to run in parallel on multiple instances.I designed a system to perform account re-balancing using the Akka actor model and lead its development. My design leveraged asynchronous programming to speed up the execution of each account re-balance while managing shared resources such as vendor licenses. This new system allowed Wealth Management to increase its processing from one thousand accounts to over ten thousand.

The Technology Leadership Program is a rotational program at BNY Mellon for new college hires. In the program I participated in two six-month rotations, as well as numerous leadership and professional development workshops.In addition to the work I did in my rotations, I participated in a hackathon where my colleagues and I made an Angular app which automated the creation of market data reports for wealth managers at the bank. I then presented this project to the head of Wealth Management Technology.I also lead a restructuring of our TLP and intern hiring process. I devised a new coding test using Hackerrank, and I created a rubric and training session to standardize the process for all candidates.

Technology Leadership Program - Enterprise Architecture TeamI sat on our Architecture Review Board, working with my colleagues to approve and reject architectural plans for new technology at the bank. I created a central site to host technology standards using Java, Angular 5, and Microsoft Azure.

I worked at Lion Line, Penn State's alumni call center. As a caller, I called around 150 alumni each night to solicit donations for Penn State academics. The job required me to think on my feet and establish connections with a diverse array of different people, many of whom were less than excited to be called. I learned the value of optimism and how to build rapport on the fly to close a deal. I succeeded in getting donations from 30% of those I talked to, and I raised over $55,000 for Penn State.As a supervisor, I was responsible for getting the most out of our callers. Every night, I listened to different calls and I counselled callers on how to improve their work. I learned how to motivate people to compete and succeed. I took great pleasure in watching new callers take my advice and grow into fantastic fundraisers. My time at Lion Line greatly enhanced my personal skills and taught me the importance of optimism. No matter how nasty your last prospect was, you have to believe you can hook the next one to succeed.

Throughout my 10-week internship, I worked in the Application, Platform and Services Division at BNY Mellon. During my time there, I worked on numerous projects with the goal of improving the internal content management system by making it more accessible to non-technical users. Another take away from this internship was the experience I gained through leading a feature team using Scrum/Agile methodology. By the end of my time at BNY Mellon, I had also successfully written new documentation for the CMS and had presented all of my work to our division head.

I participated in BNY Mellon's ten-week Summer Analyst Program during the summer preceding my senior year. It was my first foray into the corporate world, and a great learning experience.I worked in the Application, Platform, and Services division. My first project involved BNY Mellon's internal content management system and intranet. I created page templates using html, CSS, and Apache Freemarker to make the system more accessible to non-technical users. I also wrote new documentation for the system which was published on our internal reference site. I also was asked to join a group of other interns who were working on a public-facing site for people using BNY Mellon's developer tools. I taught the team how to use the content management system and created the templates that were used to build the site. I also took a leadership role on the Scrum team. This experience was hugely beneficial to my professional development. I enjoyed learning the process of Scrum/Agile development and gained a deep interest in learning how people work together effectively. The Summer Analyst Program gave me a taste of corporate life and showed me that I have a lot of room to grow. It was an important step that gave me a wider perspective on what it takes for a team to succeed outside of pure development ability. Because of this I took two classes my senior year in Work Attitudes and Motivation and Cognitive Psychology which taught me about how the work environment can foster success.
