Kenney Construction was one of the larger general engineering contractors in Santa Barbara, offering full service earthwork and earth drilling, along with concrete (structural and decorative), steel fabrication and welding (structural and decorative), rebar fabrication, rigging, shoring, and material placement. With responsibilities as vast as their service offerings, I was a man of many titles at Kenney. Though the huge majority of my time was spent in the office focused on management, design work, estimating, and operations, I still got my hands dirty every so often -- putting on whatever trade hat needed donning, be it carpenter, fabricator, heavy equipment operator, electrician, etc. I spent thousands of hours estimating, scheduling, and managing high-end, custom residential, commercial, and municipal construction projects. These projects included Santa Barbara High School, Summerland School, San Ysidro Ranch, The Biltmore, UCSB, public infrastructure work via the City and County of Santa Barbara, and many others, along with countless residential estates across Montecito and Santa Barbara. As the "Director of Special Projects," I had tried to help Kenney Construction stand out as an industry leader by introducing the team to, building out, and training on, new technologies and software - everything from CNC machines and fabrication equipment, to advanced digital layout tools, to specialty earthwork equipment, to varying software platforms to improve communication, safety, quality of work, and organization. I also did a lot of design work for custom steel fabrication - from ideation through to shop drawings. With my background mostly in general contracting, I was given the opportunity to act as the in-house general contractor for any projects with scopes beyond simple earthwork, concrete, or steel - all the way from planning and permitting, to estimation, and full management through project completion.

Spieler Construction is a high-end custom home builder out of Santa Barbara. I spent many years with Spieler as a senior project manager focused on large, complex residential construction projects -- both new and remodel work. Experienced in planning and overseeing all trades and tasks (from earth movement and foundation work, to framing, mechanical, electric, plumbing, etc., all the way through the finishing stages of tile, paint, landscaping, etc.) within complex projects, building and tracking detailed construction schedules, accurately estimating project costs, building work scopes and proposals, managing contracts and change orders, performing material takeoffs, maintaining safe working environments, producing and running safety meetings with crews, maintaining a high level of quality control on site, tracking and managing budget and balancing with performance and schedule. Managing and maintaining material and tool inventories. Performance of interior environmental inspection and testing for dangerous substances such as asbestos, lead, microbial growth (mold), etc.Experience managing internal carpentry crews, rough and finish. Also experienced in the pre-construction planning and development process - obtaining permits, presenting proposals, communicating with key players (architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, etc.) etc.

I helped build the Stinner brand and company into an influential leader within the global handmade bike industry and, in the process, helped shape the culture of cycling worldwide. Significantly grew the Stinner community and increased web presence through strategic collaborations and engaging content. I coordinated said collaborations and produced compelling content, some educational, some purely entertaining, in multiple formats, and published across different platforms (social media, web, email, print, etc.). I helped educate consumers on the importance of USA made craftsmanship through a clear, effective brand narrative. A narrative that offered a consistent customer experience across all digital and analogue channels. I took part in the redesigning and relaunching of the Stinner website. I acted as the in-house photographer and worked in close partnership with our creative director. Lastly, I helped lead strategic initiatives around sustainable transportation and worked hard toward significantly lessening the environmental impact of our production and shipping practices.

During my tenure as a UCSB student, I spent my working hours at the campus bookstore, part-time. I contributed to an optimal customer experience both behind the cash registers and on the floor. I also helped in all stages of the online order process -- from picking, to processing, to packing and shipping.
