Worked on ML/Computer Vision and Planning & Controls, and was designated as a “Key Player” during our acquisition by General Motors.Planning & Controls: Started out as an IC, where I rapidly prototyped practical solutions for the medium-latency (1-15 seconds) planning problem for our autonomous vehicle. As we scaled up, I became TL and then manager of the Maneuver Planning Team. I then became manager of the larger Maneuver Planning Group, consisting of three teams handling different aspects of the planning problem.Computer Vision: Once I felt like the team was moving in the right direction and had lieutenants in place I trusted, I transferred to the Computer Vision team, where I applied deep learning to help us better detect other road actors, and led our efforts to do ML-based sensor fusion. I have gained experience developing new models and iterating on published methods, and have provided technical leadership and guidance on highly uncertain machine learning problems.

Used pig and scalding to drive MapReduce jobs on AWS to perform terabyte-scaleanalyses. Architected Redshift database tables and ETL jobs. Implemented various ML projects, including a churn model to predict when users are likely to stop using the app, using numpy/scipy.

Architected a unified monitoring system for business-critical processes, writing a custom HBase schema alongside OpenTSDB and making a convenient python-based logging API for developers. Initiated migration of legacy Zend PhP server to Django.

Built a node.js-based platform combining video chat and gaming, and developed its launch title Merchants of Grio (based on The Settlers of Catan), working with cofounder on design and engineering. Focused design around “breaking the ice,” causing 70% of users to connect their webcams. Performed grassroots marketing and managed ad campaigns. Hired and mentored two interns, an artist and a generalist, inspiring the latter to become a software engineer. Graduated from the TechStars startup incubator.
