Dr. Jim Ranalli: Miller Grant-Grammarly ProjectThis project investigated how the use of tools for Automated Written Corrective Feedback (AWCF) affected students' revisions of timed writing assignments, looking at the written output in terms of grammatical accuracy, complexity, and writing quality. The study compared student performances across two feedback-providing AWCF tools: Grammarly and Microsoft Word's built-in proofing tool. Keystroke logging and screen-capture data were used for analysis. My role can be divided into two main categories: Lead Undergraduate Researcher and Project Manager. On the research side, I helped classify and understand data. On the project managing side, I operated most project-related communications (e.g., email, website, social media), generate progress reports to other team members, and organize project tasks and goals while ensuring they were on time, on budget, and within scope.

Dr. Carol Chapelle: Linguistic LandscapeDr. Chapelle had already been working on the implications of content and language for technology-mediated language learning materials and assessments but primarily looked at English materials. In this offshoot project, we examined the presentation of cultural narrative in French (Québecois) learning materials. My role included sifting through these learning materials, noting any text or visuals related to Bill 101 (Canada).

Dr. John Levis and Dr. Evgeny Chukharev-Hudilainen: Golden Speaker ProjectAssisted Dr. Levis and Dr. Chukharev-Hudilainen in their NSF-funded research about accent neutralization. The project involved the development and testing of the Golden Speaker Builder: a tool for language learners to listen and learn the target language with their own voice resynthesized to have a native-like accent. I worked on the project when it first launched. “Stage one” tasks included recording participants and transcribing/annotating recordings.

Dr. Evgeny Chukharev-Hudilainen: "CyWrite" This project utilized "CyWrite" - a system for automated writing evaluation (AWE) that incorporated keystroke logging and eye-tracking technology whilst providing feedback to learners' writing. Primarily, I monitored the data collection process within our lab, including assisting participants with the tasks and troubleshooting technical difficulties.
