Summer internship at San Antonio Water Systems in the engineering development department. I am working side by side with a various amount of positions including developing engineers, master planning, project engineers, and many others. I am gaining hands-on experience in how my pathway may be applied in real-world situations as well as understanding the engineering environment and workload. Every day I am shadowing engineers and put on task that challenges my thinking and teaches me how a day may look in an engineering life. I commonly work with Arc GIS Pro to use, add, and design maps of the water systems in San Antonio. This has given me a perspective of how much engineering goes into the designing of this process.

This is a role I took on that truly reflects my passion and moral values. In this position, I work remotely with professors at the University of Texas to convert their entire courses and their curriculum to a more accessible format for students who have special needs. I am specifically in charge of working with STEM-based courses as it is more aligned with my perspective. I analyze through documents, presentations, videos, and images to make them E-Reader accessible, correctly color contrasted, containing alternate text, and many other accommodations to make courses fully accessible for everyone.

Shadowed and worked with Toyota maintenance workers who showed me the basics of their career and the understanding of base engineering that is used in automotive industries. Was challenged to gain an understanding of pneumatic and electrical circuits as well as engineering problem solving. I also gained a major understanding of safety in manufacturing plant environments, I learned about the importance of PPE and as well how to work in different environments.
