Used reactive Java with Spring Webflux to create APIs that will replace an entire system, all distributed in several microservices. Communication based on REST, GraphQL and Kafka. Extensive usage of Oracle’s procedures and functions. Despite being the first foreign job experience, English proficiency was not an issue. Interacting with the product team and clients improved the ability to explain concepts and request information from individuals with varying technical expertise. Main achievements:* Created a common library to abstract HTTP calls and authentication between systems that removed around 2k lines of code from 4 repositories. Unit tests were simplified and had their length decreased.* Refactored huge methods into smaller atomic steps, registering side effects and outcomes separately. Managing external timeouts and error messages for further calls were the main issue.

Backend Specialist

Working with the architecture team led to a shift from a task-driven work pipeline to one guided by long-term improvements. This change highlighted the main struggles faced by developers and suggested ways to reduce wasted time by implementing faster builds, more efficient tests, better documentation, and applied patterns. Engaging in this process within a new environment, specifically Python and Django, was very fruitful, since solid common patterns from previously constrained environment were applied to a newer less mature tech stack. Additionally, this experience marked the first instance of having full control over the infrastructure, encompassing responsibility for maintaining and measuring systems on AWS. Key achievements:* Maintaining a hot copy of AWS S3 files on different cloud providers by utilizing S3 editions to generate notifications via SNS to SQS, which were then consumed by Python using asyncio with retries.* Separating a single functionality into a new system to be deployed alongside the monolith, applying the async paradigm to decrease resource usage, and updating the deployment process to accommodate a new container with tests.

Senior Backend Developer

The integrations team was responsible for connecting delivery companies to eCommerce platforms, making sure clients received in real time all delivery updates from any package sent. Each delivery company and eCommerce platform had their unique delivery status codes, APIs and payloads, each integration had several points of failure, logging and pinpointing the exact cause of failure was really challenging. Main achievements:* Changing a working system from pooling databases to asynchronous queues. This decreased processing time from hours to seconds.* Within the freight price calculator, the most used external api, it was implemented a new layer that would overwrite the results applying modifiers (changes on shipping price and deadline) when specific conditions were matched (cart price bigger than x, postal code between a and b etc)

Backend Developer

Campinas Area, Brazil

Working with a long chain of high volume data distributed systems connected by message brokers exposed its pros and cons: while decoupled systems help with deployments and asynchronicity, it brings harder traceability and can be cumbersome to map all data pathways. Worked with Kafka’s topics and RabbitMQ’s queues, learning its differences and where to apply each one. Got in touch with Redis associated with more transient data flows. Due to the high volume of SMS delivered through this platform and its debugging process, learned the value of precise logs and with Grafana and Kibana, monitoring the possible metrics our systems had. Responsible for the end system delivering SMS through SMPP protocol directly to South American carriers. Main achievement:* Refactored an optimized character parser to save 20% SMPP calls, generating financial savings presented in the company's monthly reports

Jun 2019 - Jul 2020

Junior Java Developer

Campinas Area, Brazil

Started a new financial web app that integrates data from several company's systems and helps the user pointing discrepancies at different accounts. This app has its main logic on the database layer (OracleDB), used Spring Boot to build RESTful web services consumed by Angular. Learned to shape the 'Java object oriented' way of solving problems into database objects as procedures and packages. With OpenAPI, documented all sorts of possible answers any REST call could generate. Everything was versioned using git. After it, started new solutions and system fixes for previously mentioned Matera's systems. Eventually started developing REST customization to specific clients, using already existing logic into new systems. Built a small library to consume the company’s HTTP APIs, dealing with basic authentication and responsive errors.

Feb 2018 - Jun 2019

Trainee

Campinas E Região, Brasil

Completed a 3-month training about Java, OracleDB/PostgreSQL, Hibernate, JSP, JSF, HTML/JS(pure) and simple design patterns, such as Singleton and DAO. Developed some dummy systems reinforcing java architecture, MVC pattern and interpersonal/motivational skills with the team. At the end of training, developed a system that could read stack trace logs from zip files and print in a web interface all sorts of tables with pre processed data. This system used regex for reading logs and Twitter’s bootstrap at frontend. After training, worked on a 10-year electric grid system. It uses EJB, WebLogic/Jboss and OpenJPA as backend, while Eclipse RCP as frontend. Developed new requirements while fixing and analyzing new bugs reported by the client. Participated on similar projects using the same base application, but with different clients. Worked on a parallel project using JSF and Spring Batch that analyzes log files. Managed to install and apply Zabbix on a dummy server, knowledge applied in further projects to clients' production.
