Abaroa currently acts as Director General/Founder of INCURATOR LLC. Since 2021 he was President Emeritus of The Latin Recording Academy® a non full-time paid job. After successfully being the President/CEO of the Latin Academy for 20 years, he also directed its affiliated charity, the Latin GRAMMY® Cultural Foundation® as its Founding President. He led an outstanding growth of The Latin Academy, leaving behind an admired entity with exceptional financial stability, strong credibility and relevance. Defying insurmountable odds against the Academy, Abaroa was able to reach impossible goals throughout two decades. Before announcing his departure, Abaroa led negotiations to obtain an unprecedented multi-million USM agreement extending the original 2005 partnership with Univision, the largest U.S. Hispanic Network, till 2028 with multi-platform coverage of the Latin GRAMMY Awards®.Abaroa started a professional musical career in 1976. A couple of years later, he studied Law at two prestigious colleges. Combining law with his passion and experience in music paved the road for Abaroa’s career. He started Legal CORP, providing legal services to most of the multinational record labels, publishing companies and artists in Mexico. He moved to Miami in 1994 to cover the Latin American market. He worked along the RIAA and IFPI to support the then growing Latin music market. In 2000, along with a group of visionaries, he founded Wireless Latin Entertainment, the first U.S -based Latin content producer (mostly music) to develop ringtones for the untapped U.S. wireless market. It was then that he was motivated by his brother Mauricio to serve in The Academy's Board of Trustees where he was elected as Vice Chair (Mauricio was the founding VP of the Latin Academy a few years before). After identifying the need to pivot the Latin Academy, the urgency to re-define goals and strategies became evident; an effort that Gabriel Abaroa was invited to spearhead and from then on, the rest is history. Abaroa has been a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the National Council of La Raza, the Miami Symphony Orchestra, the USO's Entertainment Committee, the Mexico/U.S.A. Entrepreneur Association (AEM), and the task force to create Spanish-language categories for the Daytime Emmy® awards. He serves as a board member of the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture and is part of the Platino Film Awards's Jury. He was a member of the GRAMMY® Awards’ TV Committee for 15 years and a GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY Awards’ voting member as well.
