  • Cactus Communications
Freelance Editor ▶️ Using Specialized Editing To Communicate Geophysical Science Innovations
    Cactus Communications Feb 2018 - Mar 2021
Provide specialized editing services to global researchers at international universities, institutions, and life sciences organizations and societies to ensure standard scientific English and proper formatting for submission to industry journals.Draw on my geophysics engineering background to manage anywhere from 3-6 projects per week , editing manuscripts focused in geophysics environmental science, plate tectonics, remote sensing, mechanical engineering, and satellite imaging.▶️ MY KEY CONTRIBUTION🌎 I consistently receive positive client feedback for my meticulous research and ability to translate geophysical research discoveries into language fit for publication in various industry journals.▶️ MY KEY TAKEAWAYIn addition to strengthening my research, written English, and scientific writing capabilities, I have enjoyed reading and learning about new and emerging geophysical science innovations.
  • University Of South Carolina
Undergraduate Researcher ▶️ Simulating Andean Plate Tectonics Using Radiometric Aging Data
University Of South Carolina Apr 2017 - Jan 2018
    Columbia, South Carolina Area
I always had an interest in living and learning in a new country. My opportunity to relocate to the US came after I emailed multiple professors that were actively working on geophysical research projects.I received my first research role at the University of South Carolina and joined Dr. James Kellogg, a plate tectonics expert, and his research group to investigate the geophysical and tectonic plate evolution of the Northern Andes.▶️ MY PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENTI was challenged to oversee the planning and execution of the entire research project plan, including the data collection and analysis processes.During my research, I created a model, using radiometric ages, tectonic movement reconstruction, and earthquake data, to simulate plate movement of the Caribbean plate and Northern Andes block.I also mapped and interpreted gravity data to determine the boundaries of the key tectonic terrains in Colombia. The radiometric aging, movement reconstruction, and earthquake data that I analyzed and modeled supported the hypothesis that the Buoyant Caribbean crust has been amagmatically subducting under the North Andes for 75 million years. 🌎 Earned Honorable Mention for Outstanding Thesis and was recognized as a co-author on a book chapter, Andean Tectonics, which published my proposed tectonic model.▶️ ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS🌎 Learned 4 new GIS and 2D modeling software programs—ArcGIS, QGIS, GPlates, Oasis Montaj—in 4 months. This experience furthered my interest in geosciences research, specifically in finding answers to complex questions and making predictions about the future.
  • Funvisis
Seismic Data Processing Intern ▶️ Achieving Interpretable Seismic Images Via Seismic Unix Routines
    Funvisis Sep 2016 - Jan 2017
    Caracas, Federal District, Venezuela
I was hired for a seismic data processing internship at the FUNVISIS Center at the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research Center after catching attention for developing the algorithm that increased gravimeter reliability and accuracy.I worked across interdisciplinary research teams made up of PhDs, Masters and undergraduate students on wide-angle seismic data pre-processing projects to as part of the GIAME initiative, a national effort focused on profiling the Venezuelan Andes.▶️ MY KEY TAKEAWAYSDuring this time, I gained a lot of practical experience learning how to use using Unix programming as a quality control method for loading, sorting, manipulating, and pre-filtering large volumes of seismic data, covering over 400 km area.To stay organized, I wrote multiple SOPs and method protocols on how to use the seismic Unix routines to process geophysical data and create, analyze, and interpret seismograms, which enhanced my technical reporting capabilities. This experience also strengthened my collaborative teamwork skills by challenging me to adapt my communication style when working with multidisciplinary research teams across the center.
  • Universidad Simón Bolívar
Undergraduate Ta ▶️ Developed A Procedure For Gravity Data Processing Using A Programming Algorithm
Universidad Simón Bolívar Sep 2014 - Jan 2016
    Caracas Area, Venezuela
While working towards my Bachelor’s in geophysics engineering, I was asked by my professors to step into an undergraduate teaching assistant (TA) role.My strong aptitude in the program coursework, specifically in gravity and magnetic methods, plate tectonics, and seismic data processing functions made me an optimal candidate.▶️ MY PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT🌎 Gravity & Magnetic Methods | I supervised and worked with a team to design a gravity survey for a specific area in the university. The existing gravimeter was old and unreliable, but too costly to easily replace. In order to obtain accurate results, I proposed a method and developed an algorithm that optimized the drift corrections and establishing a baseline of minimum data quality standards. This algorithm was effective, and, as a result, I was asked to give a presentation on how the algorithm works. It is now a standard approach used at the university. The method was also proposed to the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (FUNVISIS) for consideration, and later led to my hiring as a Seismic Data Processing Intern.▶️ ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONSAs a TA, I had the opportunity to relearn the same geophysical engineering topics, only this time from an instructor’s perspective.I also improved my communication skills and learned to adapt my teaching style to meet various students’ learning styles, when explaining a certain topic and giving demonstration on using different geological instruments.🌎 Seismic Data Processing | I led 17 students in a 12-week laboratory project to design a basic reflection seismic processing sequence to collect and interpret seismic images gathered from various environmental settings.🌎 Stratigraphy & Sedimentology | For this 6-week project, I managed 12 students in collecting and analyzing sediment samples from different environments and comparing and contrasting the sample grain sizes.
