The group - c.q. myself - had a tradition (reputation) of no-nonsense direct approach into and towards all aspects of experimental science, collecting data and writing publications, but also in the relations with technicians, grad and PhD students, junior & senior post-docs. I adhered to the first-name basis, from dish-washers to rector … This short background illustrates the direct & perfect fit of Gabriela in our LEGTEGG-environment. The second interview (my SOB) did not last long and was concluded by the firm handshake, for which we both were and are known. Gabriela took charge of the rather complex LEGTEGG-administration, with all salaries (but mine) of all co-laborators (in 2011 still 15+) originating from external academic and industrial projects: local KULeuven, regional Flemish, national Belgian, international EU and US, besides pharma/biotech contracts handled by her closely and critically with TTO KULeuven-R&D. Gabriela handled the KULeuven imposed SAP-software with professional flair and expertise, eventually as departmental financial antenna for our research group, as well as for "the neighbours". She administered costs for personnel, consumables, instrumentation, travel, … and organized LEGTEGG internal & external web-sites, lab-meetings & journal-clubs, grad-student seminars and doctoral thesis defences, including travel & lodging of external referees, external meetings with academic & industrial partners, .;; Her organisational skills culminated as "final touch" in the "fiesta" of my emeritaat in 2013 … she took care of all aspects, always consulting but "pre-feeling" what I expected and wanted, from the invitation card to the farewell party. I was my privilege to know and co-laborate with a hard-working dedicated professional, and now, emeritus for 5 years, I am delighted to approve her skills and sense of humor, while she out-performs me (and many a younger colleague) in physical strength and endurance! *to whom it may concern"
