Hi, LinkedIn community!I'm Gabriele Ellena, a passionate researcher with a diverse background in biology, space, and extreme environments. I'm currently working towards a Bioscience engineering PhD with the University of Antwerp, funded by FWO. The research project, named "Selection and cultivation of Microbe-Based Food Supplements on extraterrestrial environments to support human life on the Moon and Mars," is being carried out at SCK CEN and focuses on investigating Microbial ISRU for Martian Habitability and Human Nutrition.I earned my master's degree in Biology of Extreme Environments, specializing in Astrobiology, from the University Federico II of Naples. I interned at SCK CEN in Mol, Belgium, where I was involved in the MELiSSA project of the European Space Agency. The project focused on sustainable life-support systems for future space missions.Throughout my academic journey, I've explored various schools and institutions in search of knowledge. I graduated from the University of Turin, where I studied the fascinating field of human physiology in space conditions. This experience sparked my deep interest in microgravity research and its effects on microorganisms and human health. To further develop my skills and broaden my horizons, I've participated in numerous training courses on physiology, performance, and biology. These courses have kept me up-to-date with the latest methods and technologies in the field. Additionally, I completed the European Astrobiology Academy program at CAB in Madrid, Spain, which further strengthened my expertise in this captivating discipline.I'm excited to announce that I've been selected for the prestigious ESA/ELGRA Gravity-Related Research Summer School 2023. This opportunity has not only allowed me to connect with experts in the field but has also enhanced my project management skills as part of the Mercury team.I'm actively seeking connections and collaborations with fellow space enthusiasts, researchers, and professionals in the field!
