In my role as Spokesman and Patient Advocacy Specialist at the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA), I championed public policy reform and amplified the voices of individuals impacted by sickle cell disease. From 2007 to 2009, I engaged with public health officials, healthcare experts, and patients, leveraging my lived experience to foster meaningful dialogue and drive systemic change. My work emphasized collaboration, education, and the power of advocacy to reshape public health priorities.At the Sickle Cell Association of Texas - Marc Thomas Sickle Cell Foundation, I honed my skills as a Patient Advocate while partnering with the Travis County Health Department. Over nine years (2001–2010), I gained invaluable hands-on experience in public health management and practice. Through this comprehensive training program hosted by the Austin Blood and Tissue Center, I developed a deep understanding of community health needs and strengthened my commitment to advancing equitable care.
