I was the lead Business Analyst responsible and accountable for defining the technical requirements to build out the Inventory subject area in Target’s Enterprise Data Warehouse. While in this role, I developed and socialized a new data warehousing requirements template for capturing and communicating data requirements. I built and presented the case for executing a project using the Scrum framework, secured buy-in and was given the go-ahead to start the MBI: Clearance Pricing project with this approach (during this time I was promoted and transitioned into my next role at Target). It was in this role that I began my journey with Big Data by working with three other folks (two architects and one lead infrastructure engineer) to bring Big Data into Target.Initially we identify 15+ distributors of Hadoop, authored and issued various RFI’s and RFP’s, interviewed companies (many of them, several times), reviewed product demonstrations, scored proposals, identified the winning company and participated in contract negotiations. This work resulted in standing up Target’s (Data) Discovery Platform, which demonstrated almost immediate value to the enterprise and has since been succeeded by building out a second more robust platform.
