Currently working as a member of a superb team of library assistants at a modern and busy local public library in Surrey, assisting library members and visitors with information and library services. On my 9th year in this profession, I now have heaps of experience of front line customer service, using library systems, organising children's events, communicating with all kinds of people on all 'levels', plus I have acquired a knowledge of children's nursery rhymes I didn't even have when my children were little...!No day is the same, as the job is so varied! Tasks include supporting use of public PCs, Wi-Fi, related mobile phone applications, and printing services; delivering library-based events to children of all ages (e.g. rhymetime and storytime sessions, school holiday craft events, Lego Club, themed afternoons, school visits); inducting and communicating with volunteers; processing book stock; keeping customer records up-to-date; promoting free and chargeable library stock and services; running introduction sessions for library users signing up to out-of-hours access, and much more. I'm also part of the library’s social media team, which manages the library’s presence on Facebook, Instagram and X.Since October 2011, I also work part-time as a freelance translator. At the moment, my main employer is Gengo, which I serve as Language Specialist and Reviewer in the language combinations Swedish to British English and English to Swedish respectively.My Swedish origin, many years of living in the UK, and passion for both the English and Swedish languages ensure that I maintain an excellent vocabulary as well as a thorough cultural knowledge of both languages. My specialist areas are Business/Corporate and Marketing/Advertising, but I also have excellent experience working with projects for the Outdoor Clothing & Equipment industry, as well as Travel & Tourism. Many of the projects I have been entrusted with involve culturally adapting written content to suit its intended audience; a challenge I find both exciting and rewarding.
