About Gabrielle Cabodil
Gabrielle Cabodil (she/her) is a Filipina intersectional environmental justice activist with a decade of experience in the nonprofit and activism space, now tackling the climate crisis through youth's civic engagement, and decolonial feminist thought leadership. Her intersectional lens was developed through her involvement in different movements prior to her climate justice focus; spanning from LGBTQ+ rights, disaster risk reduction (DRR), reproductive health for women in urban poor communities, to children's rights. She currently works with the Fossil Fuel Nonproliferation Treaty Initiative, as the Campaigns and Operations Coordinator to the President, where she supports Treaty President and activist, Kumi Naidoo in advocacy, strategy, and engagement management. For 4 years, she was the Global Operations Manager of the Break Free From Plastic (BFFP) movement, where she oversaw and developed BFFP’s systems for internal processes and communication efforts. She helped facilitate global solidarity and cross-regional coalition-building through the convening of the Movement Strengthening group, and led in managing BFFP's in-person global meetings--most notably, in Hoi An, Vietnam, where the movement brought together 120+ activists from 30+ countries to strategize together and build solidarity, in March 2023, for the Global Plastics Treaty. Prior to the climate justice focus, Gabrielle has helped different organizations enact their advocacies through strategic communication and organizational development. She was part of Metro Manila Pride from 2016 to 2019 (the task force that organizes the Pride March and Festival in Manila and campaigns for the country's Anti-Discrimination legislation) as Content Creation Committee Head; she worked in DRR partnering with organizations such as BCMAP, DRI International, and Humanitarian Leadership Academy (HLA); and the early stages of her career lay the foundation of her involvement on women's reproductive health, early childhood education and children's rights, and raising awareness on the state of mental health of students in the Philippines.Gabrielle holds a degree in Organizational Communication from De La Salle University (Manila, Philippines) and an Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) certification from Disaster Recovery Institute International (New York, USA). She has been pursuing her Masters of Science degree in Social Justice & Community Action in The University of Edinburgh (Scotland, UK) since 2022. She was a recipient of the 2024 Global Citizen Youth Leader Award.
