The restaurant industry is in my blood. I got my start as a young 'do it all' in my father's seafood restaurant in Durban, which was open from 1982-1991, after which we sold up and moved back to Johannesburg. I didn’t want to go to university to study accounting after I matriculated – I didn’t think it was the path for a people person – but my parents insisted and off I went.However, I found a way to satisfy my parents and my own love for hospitality. I was privileged to work for Natasha Sideris in Tasha's Melrose Arch, where I continued to learn about the restaurant business. It served as a platform for me to build relationships and learn the intricacies of restaurant operations.In 2013, I joined Ocean Basket's new business team. I was hooked! My formal education combined with years in this industry has made my profession my love and what I enjoy every day. The responsibility of matching the perfect site with a restaurant owner gets me up every morning.During the pandemic, I played a key role in keeping our restaurants safe from closure by holding relentless discussions with landlords.I aim to position Ocean Basket as a top investment opportunity for those looking to diversify their portfolios and for landlords seeking a reputable and beloved brand for their centres. I strive to make Ocean Basket synonymous with trust, value, and quality - qualities I ensure are reflected in every business interaction I conduct. My approach is deeply personal. Franchisees and landlords have become part of my extended family, illustrating my belief in business being about lasting relationships, not just transactions.My extroverted personality allows me to naturally connect and build networks within the industry. I'm known for my transparency and honesty, qualities that have transformed potential conflicts into respectful mutual agreements and enduring partnerships. Beyond that, I am a lover of travel, a passion that allows me to embrace and celebrate the diverse cultures that make each Ocean Basket location unique.On this journey with Ocean Basket, I am aiming to deepen our local market penetration while keeping an eye on global trends that might one day influence our strategic direction.
