Responsibilities include:- Developing and implementing communication plans and content strategies in support of SFU Public Square’s community engagement and knowledge mobilization efforts.- Marketing and promoting SFU Public Square events and initiatives to appropriate audiences- Writing, editing, and managing event descriptions, newsletters, blog posts, social media content, and other communications materials.- Managing social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter/X, and TikTok), as well as Eventbrite for SFU Public Square’s in-person, online and hybrid events.- Overseeing, updating and maintaining website content alongside Design Lead (sfu.ca/publicsquare).- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting communications analytics and KPIs.- Collaborating with event partners and key stakeholders to ensure coordination of marketing and communications.- Managing temporary communications staff (co-op students, work study students, and interns).- Attending events and contribute to their successful management by filling various roles (such as guest management and registration, live social media, tech needs for hybrid events, and more).

Managed the communications for the Office of the Seniors Advocate. Responsible for all media relations, social media, newsletter content creation, and preparation of speeches and presentations. Organized report releases, drafted news releases and media advisories, and monitored for emerging trends.

Supported the Communications Manager and the Seniors Advocate with issues management, media relations, and report releases. Managed the social media accounts for the Office and prepared presentation materials for the Advocate. Anticipated, evaluated and assessed emerging trends and systemic challenges faced by seniors and provided strategic advice to respond to issues.

The BC Legislative Internship Program enables Canadian university graduates to assist and gain exposure to public policy-making and legislative processes. Interns are placed with Ministry for six weeks where we conduct research in policy and planning areas. I was placed at the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions, in the Child and Youth Partnership and Planning Division, where I assisted in the research of youth substance use oriented policy, budget proposals, and strategic framework development. Following the placement, Interns are assigned to a political party caucus for legislative project work for the remainder of the program. Responsibilities include writing and editing speeches, news releases, key messages, op-eds, briefing notes, and social media content.

In this role, I worked alongside Senator Kim Pate and her staff as the Social media and Communications Intern. I managed and created content for the official Twitter and Instagram pages of Senator Pate; drafted statements for social media as well as provided writing and editing support for news releases, letters, and panel/conference presentations; provided edits and aided in the creation of Appointed Podcast episodes hosted by Senator Pate; and supported the Senator and staff as needed.

As Team Leader, I supervised the summer tour staff comprised of six parliamentary players (actors representing historical characters) and nine tour guides, trained staff throughout their period of employment, oversaw day-to-day operations of the Tour Office, acted as a liaison between senior management and the summer tour staff, facilitated team meetings, assessed job performance of the summer staff, ensured effective communication with a number of Parliamentary departments when planning and organizing events for the Education Office, managed an operations report system to track events and daily operations, and provided 40-minute educational, accurate, and interesting guided tours to members of the public, including tourists, school children and English Language Learners.

As a Tour Guide, I ensured the 40-minute public tours given were educational, accurate, and interesting, developed and maintained a comprehension of history, politics, art, and architecture throughout the period of employment, communicated effectively in both English and French to large crowds (ranging anywhere from ten to 100 people), easily adapted the tours to meet the needs of different groups (such as ESL/ELL and school groups), applied excellent communication and conversation skills while greeting and welcoming guests to the building, and enthusiastically completed additional duties as required.
