• The BVSP Program Coordinator is directly responsible for the daily operations of the BVSP. The BVSP is designed to assist men and women aged 16 or older who are accused of criminal offenses and are eligible for bail but do not have the financial or social support to meet bail conditions. • For the majority of my time as the BVSP Coordinator, it was the only program of it’s kind in Northwestern Ontario. • Tasks and duties include the following: attend court daily, complete intake assessments at the District Jail, Correctional Centre and Courthouse to determine client eligibility, coordinate with client, counsel, assisting crown attorneys and the courts to facilitate a client’s release, advocate on behalf of and assist clients in navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system, testify and address the court professionally when called upon, maintain case notes and client files, track and report all necessary statistics, track all court appearances.• Experienced in using the SPIN assessment tool.• Represent the John Howard Society at the Local Bail Committee Meeting. • Attend a meeting with MAG appointed Bail Advisors to discuss ways to improve the bail process in Ontario. • Attend the Ontario Association of Bail Verification and Supervision Services 2017 Provincial Conference in Toronto, Ontario• Under my supervision, the BVSP has grown as program by 30%. • On-call manager for the John Howard Society Residence: on a once a month rotation responsible for being on-call for the Residential Program at the John Howard Society. Mentors are responsible for facilitating 1.5 hour long sessions with a group of 40 students from the incoming class of 2019 at Queen's University. The sessions are designed to ease the transition process in the first six weeks of coming to university by equipping them with skills and strategies that target all areas of their life. Sessions cover a range of topics in order to allow students to define and achieve their own concept of academic, mental, social, spiritual, physical and emotional success. Mentors are expected to share their experiences, build relationships with students and connect them to resources on campus and in the Kingston community.
