I became practiced at responding to the moment at this community focused art facility, be it phone calls, queries in the gallery and studios, or supervising children’s breaks. In my role, I coordinated term time adult courses, kids after school courses, and two school holiday programmes, over two terms. I enjoyed supporting tutors on the ground, and loved to see the kids’ faces light up when they made something beautiful.

I interacted with a variety of people in an innovative information hub and exhibition space called Pā Rongorongo, which was formerly at Wellesley St West, and created in partnership with the Council's Māori design team.I would help with wayfinding, share events happening nearby, suggest tourist attractions and generally listen to people's experience of the city. I got to talk with people from all walks of life, including those doing it tough and living on the street. It was a testament to the welcoming ethos in the design of the space, that people felt an opportunity to speak candidly with me about their negative experiences in the city, including racism, and I really appreciated my chance to offer a receptive ear. The experience reinforced my desire to contribute to this city, to be an inclusive and vibrant space, full of opportunities to feel a belonging, and brimming with art that reflects and celebrates us all.

I helped this community organisation (turned charitable trust) in achieving its mission of educating and inspiring the public so that they could feel excited and able to be part of regenerating New Zealand, to be climate change resilient and pollinator-friendly. The main facets of my role were:- Managing admin, helping to connect new collaborators and support new projects and events- Creating communications; including funding grants, the monthly newsletter to our followers, overhauling and updating the website, redesigning and establishing teaching tools, and creating a number of graphic assets including posters, signage, and the business card- Supporting the Project Manager / Vision Holder

I rebranded my universities sustainability club, designing the new logo myself. I helped to create and manage events and initiatives, such as our trip to Waiheke for removing invasive weeds, cleaning up the Panmure Basin, and engaging fellow students on Fair Trade.

AZWA is present at various events, big and small, across the Auckland region. Its main aim is to divert as much waste from landfill as possible, which they achieve through educating food vendors about compostable packaging, and by helping the public increase their knowledge about waste at the 'throwaway moment'. As a facilitator, I engaged with and educated the public, ensuring that everything has gone in the right bin. I also managed a group of volunteers.Additionally, I worked in costume as the 'Mother Earth' mascot, walking around the event and talking with people about packaging waste.
