Emergency Medical Technician
Current• Respond to medical emergencies of any kind, at any hour, at any location within Wake County • Assess, treat, and transport patients according to the standards of the EMT certification level and protocols established and periodically reviewed by the board-certified medical director• Explain assessment findings as well as risks, benefits, and alternatives of treatment and transport options to patients • Collaborate with other EMS providers and members of other public safety agencies (fire, police, etc.) to provide patient care and manage scenes • Operate ambulance in a safe manner while responding emergently (i.e. lights and sirens) • Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally over radio system• Safeguard patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA• Communicate patient condition, treatment given, and past medical history to hospital providers in order to provide a thorough, efficient transfer of care • Don and doff appropriate PPE for protection against various hazards presented during a call • Decontaminate and disinfect ambulance and equipment after calls using appropriate agents • Maintain proficiency with skills, medications, equipment, and knowledge base associated with EMT scope of practice by completing continuing education and evaluating novel peer-reviewed research
