Ever since I was a child, I have always been good with math and computers. I still remember learning how to create my first program on my older sister's TI-83 calculator in elementary school. I didn't even know I was "programming". It was just fun.I have also been an avid sports fan growing up. My family has always been big Basketball and Football fans, so we'd frequently sit down together. I could name many stats off the top of my head about my favorite players or the top teams in the leagues. Stats have always been an important part of sports, and the field is growing.This led me to the world of sports analytics, where I became entranced in the importance everyone placed on numbers that players produced. I realized how important stats are to understanding players' skill level and improving as both a player and as a team, especially after watching "Moneyball". I ended up working with the University of Arizona's Women's Soccer team to gather and analyze data from their games and report my findings directly to the Head Coach.In undergrad, I learned a lot of programming languages and principles as a Computer Science major, but pivoted to a degree in Information Science and Technology where I learned more about data analysis and applying my programming knowledge to fields that interested me. I decided to teach middle school science after graduation, which included coaching middle school football and livestreaming high school sports. After that one year of teaching, I moved on to a position more near my passion of developing and become a software trainer with Revature. My specialty is in Big Data. So far, my skills in programming include Python, Java, C, R, MySQL, Hadoop, Hive, Apache Spark, and Kafka.
