I’ve been in one kind of classroom or another since taking my first teaching job at Armstrong High School in 1997. I spent the next 20 years teaching American literature and writing in R1 and R2 land-grant and state university systems, community college systems, and private liberal arts colleges - online and on-ground. In 2013, I was given an opportunity to work closely with adjunct faculty, and the conference table we collaborated around became my classroom for the next 7 years.Currently, I serve as the Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services at Danville Community College where I work to support the executive council members who lead academic and student affairs units that include financial aid, TRIO, the learning resource center, distance learning & dual enrollment, institutional effectiveness and research, Career & Technical Education, the college of Arts, Sciences, & Business, and student services. When I’m not working with the VCCS’s most valiant faculty, staff, and students, I’m looking for ways to support my community, stay connected to my friends and family, and take time out for a good book or a long hike. I believe we can learn from the giants and find innovative ways to revolutionize the learning experience for our most vulnerable student populations.
