Advalurem Group is a New York-based real estate investment and asset management firm that invests in value-added and core-plus middle market commercial real estate located in primary and growth secondary markets across the U.S. The firm executes its niche strategy as a principal investor via joint venture equity, sponsor equity, preferred equity and through wholly owned investments. Advalurem Group currently owns 1 million square feet of office and approximately 1,000 apartment units totaling $300 million in gross asset value. Mr. Pozo is Principal and Founder of Advalurem Group with the primary responsibility of overseeing corporate strategy, business development and real estate investments.

As a private equity investor, Mr. Pozo provided equity to property owners seeking to recapitalize properties, and to investors seeking to sell ownership interests in real estate located throughout the U.S. and Europe. Mr. Pozo was involved in the business development process by personally sourcing and evaluating joint venture equity opportunities. He also managed all aspects of the investment process including financial analysis, investment structuring and transaction execution. While at Madison, Mr. Pozo oversaw the investment activities in more than $3 billion of commercial real estate on behalf of the firm’s managed funds.

As an investment banker, Mr. Pozo provided structured debt and equity to property owners seeking to acquire, recapitalize and refinance properties located throughout the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean. Mr. Pozo managed all aspects of the financing process including origination, underwriting and closings. He structured transactions with multiple layers of capital including whole loans, A-notes, junior B-notes, mezzanine financing and preferred equity. He also executed co-investment, syndication and securitization strategies on the firm’s account. While at Credit Suisse, Mr. Pozo oversaw the financing and distribution of more than $1 billion in commercial real estate.

Mr. Pozo helped establish the real estate group of a $2 billion specialized financial institution, NewStar Financial (NASDAQ: “NEWS”). He implemented the firm’s strategy of investing indirectly in real estate by providing bridge financing, interim loans and subordinate loans to property owners seeking to acquire, refinance and recapitalize middle-market commercial real estate. While at NewStar Financial, Mr. Pozo financed $200 million of commercial real estate.

Mr. Pozo began his career in management consulting, providing financial services to many of the largest institutions in the real estate industry. He performed asset valuation, portfolio analysis and partnership interest valuation. He also analyzed real estate investments for debt and equity placement and completed acquisition due diligence for investors.
