About Golnar Afshar

My interests as a graduate and postdoctoral trainee were focused on molecular biology concepts and methods. I started my teaching career in 2004 at City College of San Francisco’s biotechnology program where I have been applying my research experience to design and develop curriculum and teaching laboratory exercises and prepare the students for the workforce. Over the years, I have been privileged to work with students of various ages with different learning preferences and from diverse ethnic, cultural, socio-economic and academic backgrounds. I believe in learning through real world applications and hands-on training. In my role as an educator, I am committed to implementing and advocating for inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all students. My greatest joy and pride is to see the success of my students in their careers. In addition to teaching, I have developed valuable collaborative partnerships with biotechnology educators and industry professionals who share the same enthusiasm for training the current and next generation of biotechnologists and to support students’ career development and success.
