Georgia Agar has worked in private legal practice for over 10 years. With a background in commercial law and litigation she brings a pragmatic and fee-conscious approach to her entire practice. Georgia is well known for providing realistic, plain English and accessible client services to all her clients.Georgia began her practice in litigation and debt recovery matters and has appeared as a solicitor advocate in both the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria and the Costs Court jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Victoria in these types of matters.During her years in litigation, Georgia has been involved in several international arbitrations. Of note, Georgia was involved in a joint venture agreement dispute which ran for more than 12 months. Ultimately, the arbitration was held in the USA and ran for five days requiring depositions from more than 10 witnesses.While continuing to build her practice in that field, Georgia has also moved into the family and criminal law areas. Georgia acts for clients in all aspects of family law, including divorce, sensitive parenting disputes, relocation matters, spousal maintenance and multi-layered financial matters, and matters involving family violence.Georgia now regularly appears as solicitor advocate on behalf of her clients in the Federal Circuit and Family Law Court of Australia. Where appropriate, Georgia encourages clients to engage in meaningful pre-litigation alternative dispute resolution in an effort to resolve matters without the need for litigation. However, Georgia will also advise clients when it is appropriate and in their interests to issue court proceedings.Georgia also has significant experience in criminal matters involving both state and federal jurisdictions and appeals against both sentence and conviction. She has also run a number of matters to trial both with and without a jury and been involved in ancillary civil proceedings such as claims for compensation. Georgia’s experience in drafting applications filed with the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal means she is able to properly advise clients of their entitlements if they have been affected by crime either directly or indirectly.
