CurrentDisaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMAT) are deployable teams of healthcare professionals organized to provide rapid-response medical care or casualty decontamination during a terrorist attack, natural disaster, or other incident in the United States or abroad. The Maryland DMAT is a member of the National Disaster Medical System within the US Department of Health and Human Services. The team consists of 65 physicians, healthcare professionals, support staff and logistics personnel that are deployed to disaster sites and high profile events to establish mobile hospitals, aid stations and medical response teams.
