Storyteller And Educational ConsultantOrganic Storytelling 1979 - PresentI am a professional storyteller and movement arts infusion educator. I perform in schools, libraries, and for organizations. I also teach at UConn's Confratute and other colleges. My objectives for teachers and students are as follows.1) to infuse storytelling and the movement arts into the curriculum so that students find more meaning in the standards 2) to provide writing, telling, and moving explorations to help advanced students find there is no ceiling on creativity, 3) finally, to assist struggling students with strategies useful for recalling important information. When working with adults in libraries and Senior Centers my objective is to entice listeners to become tellers and then writers of their own stories and memoirs. When performing for adults in organizational settings, I share folk, personal, and family stories, especially from my mother-in-law's orphanage (boarding school) experiences.

Arts Consultant For Javits GrantUniversity School, Tulsa University 1992 - 1999At University School (Tulsa University) I taught teachers, parents, and PreK to 8th grade students (at risk and gifted) in the arts of storytelling, creative movement, mime and drama in the Student Active Interdisciplinary Learning System (SAILS) curriculum. I integrated the performing arts into the study of historical time periods from Egyptian , Classical, Renaissance, Neo-classical to Modern societies. Students learned to explore content and "to show what you know" through verbal and non-verbal responses. Architecture, animals, and inventions became the prototypical hooks upon which students associated each time period with its contributions, ideals and values, and its place in history of humanity. A series of books were written by the teachers under the direction of Dr. Patricia Hollingsworth, which detailed some of the explorations that teachers and students experienced. These materials are available from University School at the University of Tulsa, 918-631-5060. Two other books: Kinetic Kaleidoscope: Exploring Movement and Energy in Visual Arts and Active Learning: Increasing Flow in the Classroom are also available from University School publishing.
