Mendip Ymca

Managing staff teams and delivering youth work whilst providing a safe, welcoming and fun environment for young people (aged 10-19 years) using Mendip YMCA's facilities. This included providing information, advice and guidance to young people and facilitating a programme of positive activities.

MSSC is a charity which delivers life changing nautical adventure for young people aged 10 to 18 through the Sea Cadet Experience. This improves their life chances at school, in work and for the community.I supported volunteers to grow and develop Sea Cadet units in their local areas and advised on topics such as recruitment, training, marketing, fundraising and event planning.

Working as part of the Promoting Independent Living (Adult Social Care) team, I assessed the care needs of older and disabled adults and arranged support plans in line with the individual needs of each service user. I set up Personal Budgets and Direct Payments, arranged residential or nursing home placements and undertook reviews of care.This role involved working in partnership with other professionals to maximise the service user's health, wellbeing and independence.

Having completed two fixed-term contracts with The Scout Association I was offered a freelance-style role to design web page content for inclusion and diversity support following a project with SCOPE to aid members to work more widely with young people and adults with additional needs. This project required me to work closely in partnership with SCOPE and act as a link between the two organisations

After working for The Scout Association on a fixed term contract which ended in September I was invited back to assist with a backlog of management training, induction and support programmes in the London region.

Somerset Public Health Department

The C-Card scheme in Somerset is a free service offering condoms and sexual health information to all young people aged from 13 - 19 across the county.After being approached by the Public Health Department to undertake a freelance-style project this role consisted of meeting with existing 'Distribution Point' staff to ensure they were confident in using the recording system and meeting with staff in potential new 'Sign-Up Points' to train them in the processes.

Gilwell Park

The Scout Association is one of the country's most respected and inspiring charities, enriching and developing the lives of over 445k young people thanks to the efforts of over 110k volunteers.Working as a field-based Regional Development Officer for the National Headquarters of this organisation was a varied role which offered development support and advice to local volunteer teams to encourage growth of youth and adult volunteer membership.By empowering the volunteer managers through a comprehensive induction and training programme I made a positive difference to Scouting across the South West Region.Working in partnership with volunteers, I advised on strategic development and growth opportunities in their localities. I developed and delivered trainings in a variety of settings/styles which promoted new ways of working, change management and diversity and inclusion. I enabled volunteers to identify and meet the needs of communities currently under-represented in Scouting and took the lead on opening new youth provision within local communities across the Region.This was a fixed-term contract for one year (maternity cover) but was extended by three months.

To lead and direct the Health and Wellbeing department of Somerset Rural Youth Project (SRYP) on a strategic and operational level. I was responsible for multiple projects (including the 'Young People Friendly Services' award funded by the Public Health Department and co-ordinating the 'Young Healthwatch' work for Somerset). I worked with young people affected by a range of risk-taking behaviours on a 1:1 basis, ran various group sessions including a support group for those with Tier 2 mental health issues, had line management responsibility for an Assistant Project Worker and a team of volunteers and I networked with other professionals across Somerset to promote SRYP and its services. By forming positive working relationships I was able to secure repeat funding for the organisation.

Having worked as an Ambulance Technician for 6 years I undertook extra training to become a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered paramedic. Working in an ambulance or on a rapid response car I was responsible for making clinical decisions, performing a wide variety of complex clinical interventions, administering drugs, using initiative to problem solve and working alongside other agencies to provide an appropriate response to the patient’s needs.

Responding to 999 calls to provide the public with lifesaving assistance in emergencies involved making quick decisions under pressure whilst dealing with the public at difficult and stressful times of their lives. I provided a high quality of care and treatment, demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomacy skills and maintained accurate records.
