My enthusiastic proactive approach has developed the healthcare provision bringing innovative ideas to encourage clients into the substance service or by bringing the service to the clients. I set up a clinic within a pharmacy that I know to be well used by our clients, where I was able to provide on the spot advice for numerous problems including treatment options, healthcare issues and be a link between services. This was also a great way of targeting treatment naïve clients who were accessing needle exchange in this pharmacy.From attending the Lancashire Drug related death meetings, I acted upon findings that showed East Lancashire to have one of the highest numbers of drug related overdose deaths in the country. I worked closely with the local DAAT, commissioning bodies and Lancashire constabulary where I secured funding to develop a training programme to deliver Overdose prevention and provide Naloxone kits to our service users and their carers. The programme is now being delivered by peer mentors and Naloxone champions, who train clients, their carers and other professionals.I also developed competency sheets for staff to enable them to develop their clinical skills and become confident and competent with these.
