  Since 1998 I have owned and loved the The Hawaii General Store and Gallery in Wallingford.The store is a "family and friends run" small business and it's important to all of us that we showcase some of the best that Hawaii has to offer from fresh leis to fine art, ono (yummy) foods to classic aloha shirts and, of course beautiful music and fresh poi. For me, the most important goal of the Hawaii General Store and our store 'ohana (family) is to share the spirit of aloha and give those of us who love and appreciate Hawaii (and the Hawaiian culture) a place to gather, wala'au (talk story), get an aloha fix and a sweet "taste" of the Islands. In 2001 we were so inspired by all the folks who walked in the store and exclaimed, "Oh this place makes me want to go there!" that we opened up a travel agency. Helping people find their way to Hawaii is a fabulous way to spend one's day!As a small business owner I have the joy of wearing a thousand hats so my days are never dull... I am in charge of purchasing, sales, accounts receivable, accounts payable, HR, PR, advertising, shipping and receiving departments. I also get to play with customer service, store displays, maintenance and point of sales revelry. The best part of the "job" is working in conjunction with our travel department to send very soggy and vitamin D deprived Northwesterners to Hawai'i. In my copious amounts of free time, I update the store's Facebook page, write a monthly news letter, guest DJ a Hawaii Radio Program, participate in the Northwest Hawaiian community events, play outdoors and most importantly, help raise our twin girls.
