Responsible for the facility management and program operations within the three Fairfax campus student unions comprising over 540,000 SF of program space and $16.3 million operating budget as well as event services support at multiple auxiliary venues on Mason’s regional campuses for the Commonwealth’s largest public university. Directed 26 professional and full time staff associates (6 as direct reports) and over 90 part time student employees in the management of event, building, and fiscal services as well as employee development. Examples of Accomplishments:• Established a 5-year facility planning forecast process for the Student Centers capital projects and infrastructure improvements which allowed for greater advance planning both fiscally and structurally.• Collaborated with Auxiliary Enterprises, Campus Dining (Sodexo), and Facilities on over $8 million of facility improvement and capital programming projects. Notable improvements included the independent leasing and renovation of multiple retail tenants which included Panera Bread, Starbucks, Taco Bell, Chick-fil-a and renovation of five elevators and replacement of the entire EPDM and standing seam roof.• Initiated a budget planning process which required staff members to create their individual unit budgets to establish budget accountability. The process was successful in engaging staff in a way that promoted innovation and efficiencies allowing for savings to be applied to new initiatives within the organization.• Fiscal management responsibilities required managing multiple revenue sources and allocations generated from a combination of self-generated, E & G, and student fee funds. Successfully balanced the fiscal needs of multiple facilities, services and operations between multiple campuses.

Ames, Ia

Responsible for the administration of building & student services within the Memorial Union (MU), a historic building consisting of 259,000 SF of program space. Fiscal (P & L) responsibility for development and management of $2.5 million operating budget and operational responsibility for event management, hotel operations, parking ramp operations, student activities, mechanical and custodial support, information technology and oversight of facility and program improvements. Directed 25 professional and merit hourly staff members (5 as direct reports) and over 50 part-time student employees. Examples of Accomplishments:• Established a student building manager program to engage students more directly in the operational functions of the MU and provide extended hours of customer service to guests within the facility. • Lead operations manager in $20.8 million of building and program renovations & improvements. Notable projects included 30,000 SF food court rebranding & renovation and $3.8 million renovation of the parking structure and conversion to a fully automated parking access and revenue control system, establishment of a hotel breakfast suite, and development of a multicultural center space within the MU. • MU Advisor to the Government of the Student Body and the VEISHEA executive board (annual spring week celebration). Promoted the creation of a Student Organization Recognition Policy which impacted 800+ campus organizations. Served as a member of the campus-wide Event Authorization Committee. • Collaborated with University Facilities planning staff in the development of economical solutions to building facility challenges inherent with an 81-year old historic building incorporating sustainable and energy conservation improvements.

Responsible for the administration of building and student services within the Degenstein Campus Center. Member of the Dean of Student Life’s core leadership team. Supervised five full time professional and part time staff associates and 65 student staff in the management of university scheduling, technical services, summer conference operations, campus activities, Greek Life advising, master calendar planning, and campus center operations. Managed facility operating budget and monitored over 30 student organization accounts. Examples of Accomplishments:• Chaired facilities planning study committee in preparation for a $12 million renovation of the Degenstein Campus Center facilities which resulted in the upgrade of dining and meeting spaces, reorganization of office placement, and enhancement of exterior aesthetics. • Student Life responsibilities included: Homecoming Committee Adviser, faculty secretary for Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society, and University Greek Advisor for eight national fraternities and sororities, including the exploration of colonizing NPHC groups. • Chair of the Summer Conference Planning Committee, member of the Multicultural Affairs Advisory Board, and member of the campus Alcohol Task Force which resulted in building strong relationships with campus partners.• Collaborated with the Student Government Association and over 50 other student organizations in providing leadership development training and organizational support..

Responsible for managing building services, conference coordination, and Greek liaison within the Degenstein Campus Center facility. Supervised 50 student employees, including three student supervisors: Building Managers, Outdoor Recreation Center/Game Room, and Information Desk. Examples of Accomplishments:• Established new operating standards for the Outdoor Recreation Center, including expansion of the variety of equipment available for rental and planned special programs for the recreation area. • Built strong collaborative relationships with conference directors/planners regarding all aspects of program planning. Successfully collaborated with all primary services on campus -- including food service, facilities management, public safety, athletics, technical, residence life, information technology and continuing education for many new and returning summer conference events. Engaged 13 student staff in providing a support role for guests on campus. • Served as the University’s liaison with eight national fraternities and sororities to build strong partnerships to boost the success of the student organizations. Advised the Inter-fraternity and Panhellenic Councils, Order of Omega honor society, Greek Judicial Board peer review processes and the groups holding each other accountable. Coordinated Greek leadership development workshops/functions, fraternity and sorority recruitment processes and Greek Week planning. F• Facilitated the annual Greek Recognition Review Board hearings and Hazing Prevention workshops. Greek advising responsibilities were transferred from the Assistant Director position to the Director position in August 1995, due to personnel changes and solid working relationships established with the student leaders in the organizations.
