The Annals of Botany Company is an educational charity that has been supporting plant science for well over 100 years. We publish Annals of Botany (started in 1887) and the open-access journal AoB PLANTS (started in 2009). These international journals cover all aspects of plant biology, publishing peer reviewed research articles, reviews and comment on the widest range of botanical subjects. We also publish in silico Plants, started in 2018 and containing only computational plant science, and the highly popular web log BotanyOne that carries lively views and analysis of current research findings from all of plant biology and ecology.

Leader of the Department of Plant Sciences, -Routinely voted #1 globally for Plant Sciences, #2 for Agriculture and Forestry. -Responsible for 750 people, >1,000 acres of experimental farm, 150 acres orchard, 90,000 sq feet of glasshouse and laboratory, >$30-50 million budget, 68 direct report full-time professorial staff operating in 8 buildings with over 150 staff indirect reports and 125 graduate students, 350 undergraduate students in Plant Sciences, Environmental Horticulture and Urban Forestry, International Agricultural Development, Ecological Management and Restoration, and Biotechnology.-Overseeing the management of seven Research Information Centres in Fruit and Nut, Seed Biotechnology Centre, Vegetable Crops, Weed, Agronomy, Plant Breeding Center, UC Rangelands, Post Harvest Center, UC Nursery and Floriculture Alliance. Associate Professor and then Reader of Plant Biology

Appointed to develop novel research on plants, where I initiated new research on poplar trees as a bioenergy crop, became PI of one of four global forest FACE (Free Air CO2 Exposure) experiments, where we quantified the impact of future carbon dioxide on a fast growing forest tree ecosystem. At the same time I initiated new research on leafy green crops. I developed new innovative flipped teaching on Plant Physiology, Plants and Environment, Plants and Global Change.
