Grain Inspection Program Assistant

Before farmers from the United States can export their grain to other countries, their grain shipment has to meet a predetermined quality standard. My job is to obtain a sample of that grain, and then test it to see whether or not it meets that standard. The process of sampling and testing grain (including soy beans, corn, wheat, barley and lentils), involves everything from physically obtaining grain samples in a lab, to inspecting large grain elevators, and even crawling down 98 feet (30 meters) into the hatches of huge industrial sea vessels! (I climb more than 900ft of ladder per ship!)It's a dirty job most of the time and different from anything I've tried before, but the views are great and the people are cool.
